Department of Health's announcement regarding measures to improve Sepsis identification, tracking and prevention
The Faculty welcomes the Department of Health’s announcement regarding measures to improve sepsis, identification, tracking and prevention
Any measures which aim to help patients and healthcare professionals tackle sepsis should be applauded.
The new measures include:
- a clear definition of adult sepsis for clinicians, so sepsis is identified and recorded more quickly
- educational materials to ensure awareness among all primary care, pharmacists and health care professionals
- targeting care homes, pharmacists and other areas of the NHS which deal with frail and older people to prevent sepsis
We hope this continuing focus on sepsis will also lead to a focus on the need for adequate hospital and critical care resources to combat this and other major healthcare challenges.
