FICM welcomes ruling on naming of doctors
The Faculty welcomes the outcome of the court case between Newcastle Hospital and a group of parents who wished to name the doctors involved in the care of their children, in which cases the removal of life-support was disputed.
"Whilst the circumstances of these individual cases are tragic, this is an important judgement as it clearly identifies the need to protect the personal life and privacy of ICU staff doing their jobs when there are disagreements with families over treatment decisions and the case goes to court"
Dr Chris Danbury, Chair of FICM Legal & Ethical Policy Unit
FICM was asked to submit evidence on behalf of the profession as part of these proceedings; our thanks to Dr Sonya Daniel for leading on the response.
