Review of Critical Care Capacity in Wales Announced
The Faculty is pleased to see the announcement by Vaughan Gething, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services in Wales, that there will be both a thorough review of critical care capacity in Wales and supporting recurrent funding of £15 million. Since the Faculty’s inception we have championed the need for the consideration of critical care capacity and workforce. We led a Welsh workforce engagement in 2015 which made a number of relevant recommendations and wrote recently to Mr Gething with our growing concerns about critical care provision. It is heartening to see our work and the work of local clinicians has borne fruit.
The Faculty look forward to connecting to this review and working with the review Lead, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Jones. We are pleased to see our Workforce Lead, Jack Parry-Jones, will be leading one of the workstreams in the review.
We hope all nations of the UK will follow the positive example of the Welsh Government.
