COVID-19 (Wuhan New Coronavirus and Critical Care)

New clinical guidance and website developed for intensivists and anaesthetists in response to COVID-19

Working in partnership, The Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, the Intensive Care Society, the Association of Anaesthetists and the Royal College of Anaesthetists are urgently reviewing and revising clinical guidance to provide the UK intensive care and anaesthetic community with up-to-date clinical information and resources needed to better understand and manage COVID-19.

To support this partnership, a new website ( has been launched today for intensivists and anaesthetists. This will become the central hub for all new multidisciplinary guidance, information and resources to support the understanding and management of patients with COVID-19. In addition to patient information, clinical guidance being devised and redeveloped includes that for airway management, obstetric anaesthesia, ICU/anaesthesia liaison and simulation/training. As more guidance is developed, this will be added to the website.

COVID Safety Bulletin: Very Rapid Updates and Safety (ViRUS)

The Faculty has launched a special COVID safety project. This will take the form of simple safety bulletins highlighting problems that have or may occur during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first Bulletin can be found here.

We have also created a simple survey that anyone can fill in to indicate a safety issue experience during the epidemic. The link can be found here.

We will produce regular, short bulletins for curculation to members from the data we receive via this link and make them publically avialable on the website here.
