Following the government announcement on 19 January 2022 that all Plan B COVID-19 restrictions would now be allowed to expire - the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) are calling for all their Fellows and Members, as well as other NHS staff and members of the public, to ensure they are vaccinated against COVID-19 as the best way of protecting themselves and others.

The RCoA and the FICM also encourage everyone to continue to follow additional NHS guidance to help stop the spread of the virus – this includes keeping rooms well ventilated and washing hands with soap and water or using hand sanitiser regularly throughout the day.

Having been at the forefront of the NHS’s hospital and intensive care response throughout the pandemic, anaesthetists and intensivists have seen that vaccinations are highly effective and can help reduce the pressure on the NHS.

By taking responsibility for our own health we can protect our loved ones and also help the NHS recover and continue to provide much needed care.
