Intensive Care Medicine is a growing specialty

As we grow, it is important that accurate workforce data is available so that the specialty can plan for future, in terms of training need, service requirements and considering how the specialty might look with different models of delivery. Workforce planning for Intensive Care Medicine has become a high priority for the Faculty.

There are estimated (based on census and membership statistics) to be circa 2,300 ICM consultants across the UK.  As the majority of ICM consultants also practise in a second specialty, this is likely to translate to circa <1,150 Whole Time Equivalent ICM consultants.
